Kerala Bank a model worth emulating: CM
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that
Kerala Bank is a model worth emulating for the entire Cooperative sector.
The Chief Minister was speaking after inaugurating the year-long action plan of the Asia’s largest cooperative bank, Kerala State Cooperative Bank (Kerala Bank) at Kannur in Kerala on 25.11.24.
Kerala Bank has been able to gain many notable achievements during its five year tenure itself. It has been able to achieve gradual progress in deposits, loan and overall business. It tops among the banks in the State in terms of Credit-Deposit (CD) ratio, he said.
He noted that the Kerala Bank is making active interventions in the State agricultural sector and has given the maximum number of loans to PACS under the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF) scheme of NABARD in the country.
Thevdeposits in the State’s cooperative societies are safe as State Government stands as guarantee for the same. He reassured depositors that they need not bother about the safety of their deposits in the cooperative societies in the State. The State Government has put in place the Deposit Guarantee Board and the Cooperative Restoration Fund to safeguard these deposits, he said.
Minister for Cooperation, V.N.Vasavan presided over. The Minister also disbursed the Minister’s Trophy and Kerala Bank Excellence Awards on the occasion. NABARD CGM, Kerala Region Baiju N.Kurup, Bank president, Gopi Kottamurickal, Board of Management chairman, V.Reveendran and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Jorty M.Chacko disbursed the district-level awards for PACS. Special Secretary, Department of Cooperation, Kerala, Veena N.Madhavan, IAS, Kannur District Panchayat President, K.K.Ratnakumari and Kerala Bank director, K.G.Valsalakumari were among those who spoke.
Palakkad which was adjudged the best Regional Office, Kannur the best CPC and Meenangadi branch of Wayanad district selected as the best branch were all given the Ministers’ Trophy. The award for the best PACS at the State level were given to Eramala Service Cooperative Bank (SCB), Kozhikode district (first prize). Kathirur SCB, Kannur district (second place) and Pariyaram SCB, Thrissur district (third prize). Awards were also disbursed to Peoples Urban Cooperative Bank (UCB), Ernakulam, Kollam UCB, Kollam and Ottappalam UCB, Palakkad who won the first, second and third prizes for the best UCBs.
The State-level awards for Sri.Sabhumon S, Palakkad (best paddy farmer), Smt.Rashmi Mathew Kottayam (best dairy farmer), Sri.Padmanabhan T, Kozhikode (best vegetable farmer), Sri.Sunilkumar, Wayanad (best integrated farming), Sri.K.Saseendran, Wayanad (best fish farming); Sri.Gopalakrishna Sharma (best plantation farmer) were also given away at the function.
